QUESTION POSED ON: 10 July 2009
How secure are Extended Validation SSL certificates? I've heard that their security features are often exaggerated

>
Extended validation SSL certificates have a higher trust level because the issuer of the certificate performs more checks on the requesting body, which, among other criteria, establish the identity of the applicant and prove that the person has control over a given domain.

Only the latest browsers (such as IE 7, 8, Firefox 3.5, Safari 3.2, Opera 9.5 and Google Chrome) have support for EV certificates. These browsers display a little more information for EV certificates than for standard SSL certificates. We haven't come across any security issues related to EV certificates so far.
